R.I.P. September 18, 2001

It takes a long time
to get used to
the loss of a special horse.
But it's important
to remember
that when a horse dies,
it leaves something very special behind...

They leave us memories
of many things,
of special times.
And as long as we have
those memories
Beamer will live on
in our hearts and minds.

We purchased Beamer in 1997 while he was in training at Barron Stables in Kingsport, Tenn. We had been looking for a horse for Amanda to show in 12 and under. I knew it would take a special kind of horse to trust with my nine year old daughter. Jackie Barron called to say that he had found a horse for Amanda and we went to look. After meeting Beamer, I rode him several trips thru the barn and told Bill, "this is the one" she will win the 12 & Under class at the celebration with this horse. Of course, Bill didn't beleive me, but I KNEW that Beamer was the one we had been looking for.

Ever since the day we purchased Beamer, he has enriched our lives in every way possible. He has given us love in return for all the love we give him, he has never let us down in the show ring or at home. When not showing, a small child can climb all over him and walk underneath and he will be so careful not to hurt them, but when he enters the ring, he has such tremedous ring presence and knows what his job is and will show his heart out because he is definitely a show horse! This picture of Beamer and "his" Amanda was taken when they won the 1996 Youth 12 & Under World Grand Championship at the Racking Horse World Celebration in Decatur, Alabama.

After winning 12 & Under World Grand Championship honors in 1996, he was the 12 & Under Gelding World Champion in 1997.

Beamer, again being shown by Amanda, at Chestnut Hill, Tennessee…this was their 2nd time in the ring. Beamer was voted Youth 12 & Under Horse of the Year by the Professional Trainers Association in 1997!

Right after the World Celebration in 1997 he was taken to Dr Michael Brown's Clinic in Arab, Alabama for some surgery to remove scar tissue in his back legs from a previous surgery, he was laid up for six months. When he was put back in training, two different trainers sent him home, saying he was finished and couldn't show again. We took him back to Dr. Brown's for further observation and while there we put him in training with Jakey Smith who worked in the same town as Dr Brown. After working with Beamer for three weeks, Jakey asked that Amanda come to Alabama and ride Beamer for him that he thought that he would be able to show at the Racking Horse World Celebration. We couldn't believe it!!! Not after just three weeks of work, but we went to ride him and saw what Jakey had accomplished with Beamer in such a short period of time. After six weeks of work, Beamer was the 1999 Reserve 12 & Under World Champion!

This picture of our talented daughter Amanda Lewis and Beamer was taken at the 1999 Racking Horse World Celebration held each year in Decatur, Alabama.

We were so thrilled because it didn't matter to us what color ribbon he came out with, nor if he even placed, all that matter to us was that he was back to being 100% healthy and able to compete again. Jakey not only loved him but spent countless hours in the saddle and carting him to exercise that backend. Needless to say, after putting his faith and trust in Beamer, Jakey was not disappointed.

In 2000, Amanda allowed me to show Beamer in the Championship Circle Amateur/Owner class. After the greatest ride of my life, we were the new World Champions in that division.

In November 2000 after coming home for the winter to just be a horse with plenty of "spoiling, treats, and Pepsi" we found Beamer down in the stall. He had colic and was taken to one of the best Equine facilities in the world at Lexington, KY where he under went surgery. The surgeon only gave him a 20% chance of surviving but once again Beamer showed how big of a heart he pocessed. After staying there for a week, he came home to recuperate.
